Considering Collecting: A new series of online talks from the Courtauld
A few months ago, I connected with Acatia Finbow, a Research Forum Event Producer at the Courtauld in London. The recommendation came from our framer - who happens to be Acatia’s father!
What sparked this connection, was that Acatia was about to launch a new series of talks for the Research Forum on art collecting and we had just launched the Young Collectors.
The Considering Collecting programme starts tonight and I will be tuning into their first webinar “Considering Collecting: Collecting Today”.
What I love about this initiative is that it’s free and accessible to anyone (registration required) and throughout the series they will be covering a range of topics from collecting in the digital age, a deeper look into existing collections, what inspires you to collect and how to look after your collection once you’ve started collecting. The panel includes:
Michael Findlay: Director at Acquavella Galleries and author of ‘The Value of Art: Money, Power, Beauty’ (Prestel, 2012)
Charlotte Appleyard: Director of Development & Business Innovation at the Royal Academy of Arts
Tiqui Atencio Demirdjian: collector of Latin American, Modern and Contemporary art and design
Anthony Shaw: collector of ceramics, drawings and paintings, as well as art objects made from wood and iron
What does the Courtauld say about tonight’s talk:
“Whether it’s the love of an artist, a medium, a period, or an individual work, the chance to invest in something that might increase in value in the future, or the opportunity to gain fame and influence in the artworld and beyond, people and organisations are driven by different motivations to find, collect, and display artworks today.
Join us for the first in the online series ‘Considering Collecting’ where we hear from our panel about what is means to be collecting art today. Thinking not only about what drives people to start collecting, but what the legacy of these collections might be, our chair and speakers will get to the heart of their own experiences with collections – both their own and those they work with – and share insight, advice and guidance for those interested in collecting, whatever the scale.
This event is part of the Open Courtauld programme, organised by The Research Forum.”
